Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, thought she had won but a chagrined Harvey held up the card with official results showing that Gutierrez was first runner-up.
Host Steve Harvey announced Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, won this year’s beauty pageant.
The memes came fast and furious, majority at Harvey’s expense.
Steve quickly apologized on stage: “Listen, folks”.
Donald Trump, the pageant’s former owner, sold the organisation that owns Miss Universe in September.
Miss Philippines shocked upon receiving the crown on December 20. How anyone would possibly think that is beyond me, but I assume Harvey was nervously trying to say “something”.
Harvey later took to Twitter to apologize, but he made another misstep when he misspelled both Colombia and the Philippines in an initial tweet. Talking with reporters afterward, Harvey and an executive for pageant owner WME-IMG called it human error.
Host Steve Harvey inadvertently announced the wrong victor of the Miss Universe pageant tonight in Las Vegas. “It was very 2015”, she said in the video. “What happened to the girl from Colombia is devastating, to give it to her for a couple of minutes and then take it away”.
While, Gutierrez has been named the first runner-up.
Instead of reading Miss Philippines as the victor, as seen on the paper, he announced Miss Colombia as Miss Universe.
“Miss Universe 2015 is Phillipines”. “We feel very badly, but it’s still a great night”.
The competition started with women representing 80 countries aged between 19 and 27.

He also tweeted an apology to the viewers, who for the first time weighed in on the contest, casting their votes to be tallied along with those of the four celebrity judges.
