Miss Universe show, host apologize for crowning wrong woman
In a statement regarding the mix up, the Miss Universe Organization said, “The excitement of live TV was evident tonight on The Miss Universe stage with over 10 million live fan votes tabulated”. She said “everyone was stunned and no one knew what to do”.

“Thank you for voting for me”, said Gutiérrez who insisted that she wasn’t annoyed with the whole embarrassing fiasco.
Harvey, who was hosting the contest for the first time, said he reread the card and noticed it said “first runner-up” next to the Colombia contestant’s name before he asked producers if he had made a mistake.
She added: ‘I was very happy for Miss Colombia because she really deserved it. I’m really not happy with the result and so are the other girls, I’m sorry to say it’. Our sincerest apologies to Miss Universe Colombia, Miss Universe Philippines, their families and fans. Again it was an honest mistake.
However Perez made his final vote in his mind when the contestants were given a second question each – admitting for him, Miss Philippines came out top, as Miss Colombia came across very “rude” at the final stage.
I don’t want to take away from this awesome night and pageant. “This would never have happened!” he wrote.
As well as the wonderful contestants. The tweet was quickly removed. He encouraged Harvey to “keep the faith and keep going strong!” The two took part in one of the biggest cell-matches of the year.
The pageant has been trying to make the event more relevant, with finalists having to tackle current affairs questions on topics such as the terrorist attacks in France, gun control in the United States as well as the American presence in Asia. Seriously, don’t laugh too loud.
But others made plenty of jokes at Harvey’s expense.
But he corrected with flair, later posting “Adriana Gutierrez, you are still our Miss Universe!” The pageant was owned by Donald Trump and NBCUniversal until earlier this year.
Vulture’s Joe Adalian, a veteran television industry reporter, said it “wouldn’t shock me” if the crown switcheroo was actually a planned stunt.
Philippines presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda didn’t address the debate over the win but said, “in bagging this victory, Ms. Wurtzbach not only serves as a tremendous source of pride for our people, but also holds up the banner of our women and of our country-as a true representative of what the Filipina can achieve”.

That led Spanish-language network Univision to pull out of the broadcast for what would have been the first of five years airing the pageants, and NBC to cut business ties with Trump. We witnessed that tonight when the wrong victor was initially announced.
