According to the sheriff’s office, a caller reported an overturned boat on Lake Sylvia on Sunday afternoon. When they looked out to the lake, they saw a speed boat on its side and also saw someone thrown from the boat.
Two juvenile boys who were wearing life jackets were pulled to safety by those who witnessed the mishap, but 47-year-old Dale Urban Steinemann of New Munich, who was piloting the boat, was nowhere to be found.

Authorities say the boys are the sons of Steinemann’s girlfriend. The boys were taken to a hospital in Melrose to be checked out. The Melrose Rescue Squad and Stearns County Deputies responded with divers and watercraft, and searched until dark but Steinmann was not found. According to the report, his body will be transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiners’ Office for an autopsy. After the search for the man was suspended Sunday night, it resumed this (Monday) morning with the help of divers from Crow Wing County and their sonar unit.
