Koomer Ridge is a primitive camping area with multiple camping spots. Michael said he slept under a tree and ate sticks.

“It sounded like a kid, but it was just a very high pitch”, says Kelly Moore, U.S. Forest Service.

Julia Esposito said her father has taken his children and grandchildren to the campsite many times in the past.

Search and rescue crews accompanied by hound dogs spent the night looking for the cousins.

The boys came away from the adventure with only a few bumps and scrapes, the trooper said. Helicopters equipped with infrared cameras also swept the area throughout the night.

Rain started falling soon after the boys were found Friday afternoon.
