A body believed to be that of Taliyah, who had been the subject of an Amber Alert, was found on a rural property near Calgary on Thursday. He was also sentenced to at least two years for cocaine trafficking and possession of an unauthorized firearm, in 2008.

“The person we had in custody over the course of the last 24 hours has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder”, said CPS Inspector Don Coleman.
Details emerged Friday about the criminal record dating back almost 20 years of a man charged in the deaths of a Calgary woman and her five-year-old daughter.

The Calgary Police Service says the body believed to be Taliyah Leigh Marsman was found by searchers Thursday near a roadway near suburban Chestermere, Alberta. Court documents filed when he was charged say he is not allowed to contact Taliyah’s father, Colin Marsman. The case began Monday evening when investigators were called to Ms. Baillie’s basement suite when she did not show up for work.
Coleman said it’s believed Baillie was the primary target. The family is devastated and there’s still a ton of work to do investigationally.
Grindle also said she’d seen the auto and a man matching the description of the suspect, in the immediate area, and police had been to that area of the neighbourhood before.
Investigators searched Downey’s home in the SkyView area in northeast Calgary Thursday night. Edward Delten Downey has been charged with murder in both their deaths. An autopsy was planned Friday on the girl.
