The Paramount film starring Tom Cruise was good enough to nab the third-best U.S. opening of the star’s career, coming in behind “Mission: Impossible II” and 2005’s “War of the Worlds“.

Tom Cruise is no doubt a tabloid staple but many wondered if his name still carried clout at the movies, that was until he broke out at the box office this weekend with “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”.

With these favorable circumstances, Cruise and the rest of the team have pushed on to getting started on ‘Mission: Impossible 6.’.

Many Mission: Impossible fans and critics have likely seen the first film of the blockbuster franchise numerous times – especially since it is now streaming on Netflix.

The previous Mission Impossible movie had a $30m opening weekend. Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann and Chris Hemsworth star.

With an estimated budget of $80 million, the Brian de Palma-directed film generated over $457.6 million at the box-office worldwide – making it clear that it would not be the last time that Tom Cruise played Ethan Hunt on the big-screen. It leaves Vacation and Ant-man far behind, with $14.5m and $12.6m respectively.

Meanwhile, Rogue Nation’s outcome more than tripled that of New Line’s Vacation reboot, which fell below recent forecasts of $30 million. “Mission” was overseas as with a take of $65 million.

Sony’s second weekend of Adam Sandler’s “Pixels” showed only moderate traction as the comedy slid 57per cent to US$10.4 million at 3,725 theaters, bringing the 10-day total to US$45.6 million.
