Mississippi community grieves over loss of nuns
That auto, a Toyota Corolla, was found abandoned a mile away from their home and taken to a crime lab in Batesville, authorities said. When the sisters failed to show up for work, police checked their home on Castalian Springs Road and found the bodies. Friends of the victims say they were stabbed to death.

It was too early to say how the nuns died, but it doesn’t appear that they were shot, Durant Assistant Police Chief James Lee said. “They came here to MS to outreach to the poor using their medical services”, Father Gregory Plata, who knew the women well and was a friend to the victims, said.
She’s been down south since the 80’s but is a member of Sisters of Charity in Nazareth, Kentucky, which is about 40 miles south of metro Louisville.
Church officials said the sisters also regularly distributed books, school supplies and other items to the poor.
The missing auto of two murdered nuns has been found.
Durant in general and their street in particular are very quiet, she said. “They and so numerous sisters who have come down here throughout the years are the unsung heroes”, said Franciscan Father Greg Plata, sacramental administrator of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Lexington, where the sisters participated in parish life.
In an interview on the motherhouse campus August 26, she said: “We know their death was violent and they were two extraordinarily peaceful women”.
The population of Holmes County Mississippi has been left in shock after the deaths of two much-loved nuns in an apparent stabbing. Their bodies were taken to a state crime lab for autopsies.
“Pray in gratitude for the precious lives of Sisters Paula and Margaret. They absolutely loved the people in their community”, Bishop Joseph Kopacz, of the Catholic Diocese of Jackson, said.
LEXINGTON, Miss. (AP) – The two nuns who were killed in MS were by all accounts some of the most friendly, helpful people in town, cooking and caring for anyone in their poor community – making the slayings all the more puzzling.
According to Durant Police Department, the nuns’ auto went missing from the home they shared on Castalian Springs Road, following the killing. You could feel their passion about serving the people, helping the poor.
“We’re the only people that will see them”, she once said. They noted Held had 49 years with the order and devoted herself to “living her ministry caring for and healing the poor”. We will make them as carefully and consistently as we can.
“Unbridled love and care for mankind has been met with unparalleled savagery”, he added in a statement. “We hope justice will be swiftly served”.

“We have little information at this time”, the organization said in a statement.
