Mississippi State beats Troy 45-17
Players make plays. I’ve got a feeling WMD might mention this in his Armchair QB.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs take on the Troy Trojans today in a game on the college football schedule which sees both teams coming off tough losses amidst disappointing starts to their respective 2015 seasons.
On the third defensive play of the game, Brandon Bryant, starting his first-career game at safety, sacked the quarterback, causing a fumble. “So when he woke up this morning and told me he was throwing up all night, it hit me that this was time to get ready to go”.
Fitzgerald, who was locked in during the walkthrough, was 6 of 7 for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
Troy eventually scored three times – two touchdowns and a field goal – in the second half.
At the half, Troy had 31 total yards, and Mississippi State had 38 points.
Troy drops to 1-4 (0-1) on the season.
“Today we had a lot of guys playing nasty defense”, Mullen said.
Without Dak Prescott, who played only three series because of a stomach bug, the defense became the Bulldogs’ best unit.
Westin Graves added a 42-yard field goal and Fitzgerald connected with wide receiver De’Runnya Wilson on a 28-yard scoring pass before scoring on a 1-yard draw with 47 seconds remaining in the half to give the Bulldogs a 38-0 lead at the break.
The tempo for the game was set early. Fred Ross tacked on a 77-yard punt return to his resume – Ross’ second touchdown of the game.
“Dak did a good job carrying out the fake and getting the defense off him”, Ross said. Nelson Adams pounced on the ball in the end zone, recovering the first fumble of the season for the Bulldogs. Quarterback Dontreal Pruitt and running back Brandon Burks showed a few nice play-making skills late, however.
Troy (1-4) scored twice in the third quarter but mustered only a field goal in the fourth.

“We got overwhelmed by their team’s speed”, Troy head coach Neal Brown said. “They have the speed, and not just the speed but the length, that we are looking for”.
