Football team spokesman Chad Moller told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Walters, 21, has been suspended indefinitely while the university learns more about the arrest.

Missouri state law has a wide range of possibilities for how severely this incident will be handled.

Walters came to Missouri before the 2014 season.

Walters, a Bradenton, Florida, native, is one of six running backs on scholarship at Mizzou and was not expected to start.

According to the police department, Walters will likely be charged with a felony for stealing and a misdemeanor for the fraudulent credit card use. He redshirted that year and missed the entire 2015 season during the rehabilitation process after suffering a torn ACL the previous spring.
