“First of all, I don’t think arguing “vote for me, I’m a woman” is enough”, McConnell told a Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce luncheon crowd.

McConnell was in Shepherdsville, Kentucky on Monday speaking to a business group.

When HuffPost asked Clinton about the comment on Facebook, she responded that equal pay and family leave affect both genders.

McConnell’s comments came as he tied Clinton, the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, to President Barack Obama’s record.

“Wow. If that’s what he said, Mitch McConnell really doesn’t get it”, Clinton posted on the social network site Monday afternoon.

Clinton’s campaign touted her response on Twitter, adding that “and that’s why you don’t try to pick a fight on women’s economic security with Hillary Clinton“.

Clinton responded during a question-and-answer session hosted by Facebook. Bevin, a Louisville businessman, past year tried but failed to wrest away McConnell’s Senate seat in a bruising Republican primary. Keith said the remark was a blanket criticism of Clinton as well as of McConnell’s recent Democratic Senate opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes.
