Mitt Romney To Launch Scathing Attack On Trump

“There’s no question I’m going to do everything within the normal political bounds to make sure we don’t nominate Donald Trump”, he said Friday, a day after he helped cement the wide division of the Republican Party over Trump”. MSNBC is promoting “Romney Speaks Out Against Trump” in an onscreen graphic, and Fox News Channel’s anchor also is teasing live coverage of the speech, which is planned to begin at 8:30 a.m. PT at the University of Utah.

When Romney finished his remarks, the crowd began chanting “we love Mitt!”, a single man tried to start a counter chant, yelling “Donald Trump!”, but it didn’t take off, and another voice in the crowd yelled “sucked!” instead.

Moreover, Waldman finds that Romney mostly reiterated existing arguments against Trump, so his speech is unlikely to dissuade Trump voters.

Romney pointed to Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns and initial reluctance to disavow an endorsement from a former leader of the Ku Klux Klan white supremacist group.

Giving his party’s 2012 presidential nominee the back of his hand, Trump turned his sights on the general election. Trump then brought up the possibility of running as an independent, which he said he “may do”, but warned, “if I go, I will tell you, these millions of people that joined, they’re all coming with me”. He spoke about the challenges at home and overseas, and specifically criticized Trump on his proposed trade and foreign policies.

The Associated Press has asked Republican governors and senators if they would support Trump if he becomes the party’s nominee.

The brash businessman has been dominating the primary season, but still has a lot to do to sew up the presidential nomination before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July.

“Hillary wants no part of “Trump” and “Why did Mitt Romney BEG me for my endorsement four years ago?”

Regarding Trump’s proposed economic policies, Romney declared, “What little he has said is enough to know that he would be bad for American workers and American families”. Given the current delegate selection process, this means that I would vote for Marco Rubio in Florida, for John Kasich in OH, and for Ted Cruz or whichever one of the other two contenders has the best chance of beating Mr. Trump in a given state. “I could have said, ‘Mitt, drop to your knees, ‘ and he would have dropped to his knees”. He also asserts that the billionaire real estate mogul “has neither the temperament nor the judgment to be president”.

Speaking to students last month at Babson College in Massachusetts, Romney said he shared the feeling of many Americans that Washington has failed them, and he urged national leaders to tackle big problems such as climate change, poverty, education and income inequality.
