Mitt Romney Warns of Possible ‘Bombshell’ in Trump’s Taxes

“Frankly the voters have a right to see those tax returns before they decide who our nominee ought to be”, Romney said, noting that he is “so sensitive” to the issue is because he was hammered on it during his own presidential bid four years ago.

“We have good reason to believe that there’s a bombshell in Donald Trump’s taxes”, Romney told Fox News on Wednesday, also calling out by name Sens.

We’ll be working on it. Everything is very much, you know, I gave my financials ahead of schedule, much ahead of schedule.

Asked by host Neil Cavuto why he hadn’t officially backed a Republican for the 2016 nomination, Romney said he would like to see the back taxes from several of the candidates.

After speaking at Babson, Romney attended a dinner at Healey’s home, where he was joined by a group of close friends and former officials from his 2012 campaign such as Bob White, Spencer Zwick, Beth Myers and Peter Flaherty.

“They were all over me for my taxes”, Romney said. Marco Rubio of Florida and others in the Republican race are finding it hard to counter the rise of Donald Trump, and as Romney remains undecided about whether he will endorse a candidate.

Under intense pressure, Romney did finally release his tax returns during the campaign, but when it emerged that he had paid around 14% taxes on his 2010 return – less than most Americans – there was political uproar that played into the hands of the Obama campaign.

“Perhaps he hasn’t been giving money to the veterans or to the disabled like he’s been telling us he’s been doing”.

“This was an issue in my [2012] campaign”. “He likes to tell people how well he’s done, why isn’t he willing to let us look at the tax return?”

Trump’s personal financial disclosure was released by the Federal Election Commission around the time he announced his run for president last year and Trump tweeted in October of last year a picture showing him signing his tax return.

“Certainly part of what is behind the energy and the passion for Donald Trump on the Republican side and Bernie Sanders on the Democratic side is the frustration and anger people feel in this country”, Romney said.

Cavuto pressed Romney as to whether the governor was indeed questioning the amount of Trump’s declared charitable donations. At the time, he declared his net worth to be about $10 billion.
