MLB All-Star Game: Syndergaard, Cespedes Both Out

Yoenis Cespedes and Noah Syndergaard were removed early from Friday night’s 3-1 loss to the rival Washington Nationals, only hours after NY announced that struggling pitcher Matt Harvey will have season-ending surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. While Cespedes will not attend the festivities, Collins said Syndergaard will still head to San Diego, joining Jeurys Familia, Bartolo Colon and the entire Mets coaching staff.

A day that already brought hellish news added one more giant bit of worry Friday, when Noah Syndergaard left his start against the Nationals at Citi Field after 4 2/3 innings accompanied by a trainer.

Strasburg became the first National League pitcher to start a season 12-0 since 1913 with the win tonight. “I don’t know I’m just trying to do my part, keep it close and give the guys an opportunity to win”.

Even general manager Mike Rizzo got into a heated exchange with crew chief Jim Joyce just moments after the final out.

Stephen Strasburg is an All Star. All Mets fans can do is hope for the best as perhaps the two most important players on their roster are clearly less than one-hundred percent.

PIRATES 8, CUBS 4: Andrew McCutchen had three hits, including an RBI single during a decisive four-run seventh inning, as host Pittsburgh rallied for a rare victory over Jake Arrieta. Even if he threw 175 innings last year, 180, and I think he threw nearly 190 with the playoffs, you’re hoping this year 210’s, 215 not out of the range, that it’s not out of the realm of possibility of getting him up over 200.

Washington is 1-8 in their last nine road games, 9-1 in their last 10 against the NL East, and 9-3 in Scherzer’s last 12 starts against the NL East while the Mets are 7-1 in their last eight overall, 6-0 in their last six home games against a righty, and 9-1 in their last 10 home games. Scherzer replaces his teammate, RHP Stephen Strasburg, who won’t pitch in the All-Star Game because he started Friday for the second time since coming off the disabled list.

In the top of fifth, the Mets were down 3-0 to the Nationals, thanks to a two-run home run in the second by Clint Robinson and an RBI double in the third off the bat of former Met Daniel Murphy. Pitcher Noah Syndergaard then departed in the fifth after a pair of fastballs registered 93 and 91 miles per hour. I think my arm felt good. So it was kind of just a weird pitch. “So we took him out”.

Mets starter Noah Syndergaard leaves with an undisclosed injury during Friday’s game against the Nationals. Collins said it was unlikely the slugger would’ve been able to pinch-hit.

It was feared the apparent arm injury was due to a bone spur in Syndergaard’s elbow.

“It all boils down to a little shoulder fatigue”, Syndergaard said.

With his velocity dipping, Syndergaard exited in the fifth with arm fatigue that was not elbow-related, the Mets said.

Syndergaard (9-4) and slugger Yoenis Cespedes left early with injuries – hours after NY announced that struggling pitcher Matt Harvey will have season-ending surgery.
