MLB All-Star Game TV ratings continue to plummet

Second-inning homers by Kansas City teammates Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez powered the American League to a 4-2 victory over the National League on Tuesday night in the 87th All-Star Game before 42,386 at Petco Park. Cueto, who was part of the Royals’ world-championship team last season as a half-season rental, couldn’t get out his former teammates.

Hosmer added and RBI single in the third, and the American Heritage (Plantation) alum, who grew up in Cooper City, took the MVP award in his first All-Star appearance.

The AL’s second-inning pitcher, Corey Kluber, was credited with the win, while Cueto was handed the loss.

With an NL ballpark hosting for the second year in a row in a streak of at least four, the AL wore white uniforms, hit last and used the Padres clubhouse on the first-base side.

After AL starter Chris Sale gave up a homer to Chicago crosstown rival Kris Bryant, the AL’s pitching staff largely shut down the NL.

Cleveland Indians hurler Corey Kluber, the second of 10 pitchers AL manager Ned Yost sent to the mound, was credited with the win after pitching a ideal second inning. He allowed a one-out hit to Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy and a two-out single to the Pirates’ Starling Marte followed by a walk to Reds outfielder Adam Duvall.

Overall, this year’s Home Run Derby was just the third in the past 19 years to fall short of a 4.0 rating and 6.0 million viewers, joining 2014 and 2003 (3.5, 5.2M).

Trout carved out a bit of history, becoming the first American League player to record a hit in each of his first five All-Star Games, according to CBSSports.com’s R.J. Anderson, Matt Snyder, Dayn Perry and Mike Axisa. He pitched 1 inning and struck out 1 batter.

London is not calling for Major League Baseball next year. It is something that I will never forget. The NL’s scoring lead is just 360-359.
