The playoffs begin October 4 with the AL wild-card game, followed by the NL game a day later.
The World Series starts on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the park of the American League pennant victor. Because the American League won the All Star Game, an American League team will have home field advantage in the Fall Classic.
The National League Wild Card Game will be played on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and be televised by ESPN, one day after the American League Wild Card Game on TBS. The Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros and defending champion Kansas City Royals are all in the hunt as well. Game times have not yet been set and aren’t likely to be for some time, though the Wild Card games will certainly be in prime time evening slots. The Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Mets are all within 4.5 games of San Francisco.
The Cubs are now an MLB-best 79-45 with a 12.5-game lead in the NL Central.
