An MRI taken Friday came back negative, and deGrom will start throwing again once his discomfort subsides, the Mets said in a press release. He’s given up just three runs in 22 innings in his last three starts, with opponents collecting just seven hits in 68 at-bats (.103).

Given three days of extra rest after a pair of woeful starts, deGrom continued to struggle Thursday when he was reinserted into the rotation. Salas was 3-6 with a 4.47 ERA with the Angels but has four saves and a 2.93 ERA since the All-Star Game.

I’m falling off so hard to the first base side, if you look back at film from previous year I feel like I could throw the ball and nearly stand there on my land leg.

NY had plenty of opportunities against starter Jake Esch, who was making his major league debut. Miami began August four games out of first place in the National League East and one game up in the race for the second wild card spot but finished it 11 games behind the Washington Nationals in the division and 3 1/2 games behind the second wild card, the St. Louis Cardinals.
