MLK Day events planned in city
“We’re going to be doing a commemorative celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.to celebrate his contribution to the nation”, said Jimmie Garland, president of the Clarksville branch of the NAACP.

Bluffton residents are celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this weekend with a banquet, memorial service and march through town. The organization strives to promote Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by encouraging not only one national day of service, but 365 days of service. Fred Bailey, founder and executive director of Gallatin-based nonprofit Children Are People, an after-school mentoring program for at-risk students, will be this year’s keynote speaker.
Indianapolis Zoo – 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The zoo will be opening for free on Monday, and some of the more winter-ready animals will be available to be viewed.
A day of service in Hopewell will allow citizens to participate in volunteerism and civic engagement.
Students on campus are grateful of Dr. King, who helped open up the doors for diversity on college campuses.
The day of service aims to bring people of all ages and backgrounds together to strengthen their communities and improve New Jersey.
For Hassan, a member of King’s own fraternity, he feels a special connection especially on MLK Day. Day holiday, including a video of KU athletes discussing King’s legacy.
The weeklong celebration begins Sunday, Jan. 17, with the Gospel Musical Explosion 6:30 p.m.at Free Methodist Church, 3001 Lawrence Ave.

On Saturday, “A Day On, Not Off” beautification project will start with a breakfast and program at 8a.m.at Hamilton Elementary School, 2089Rose Villa St., Pasadena.
