MLS releases Expansion Draft information
Each new team will select five players in the expansion draft, down from 10 in the draft two years ago. Obviously the Galaxy roster is full of depth, and Ariel Lassiter is a promising young talent on a low salary who’s neither on the senior roster nor a Homegrown player. Any player with a no trade clause must also be protected – these are most often under-contract Designated Players.

Major League Soccer announced Tuesday it will introduce a modified format for its 2016 Expansion Draft as it prepares for two new teams, Atlanta United and Minnesota United FC, to join the league next season.
The 20 current MLS clubs will have the ability to protect 11 players from their rosters.
According to Wahl, some MLS general managers are less than thrilled with being notified of the Expansion Draft rules only three months prior to it happening. Because of this new rule, existing teams will also only lose a maximum of one player.
But the basic outline of this year’s Expansion Draft is in place: it will be shorter and potentially less disruptive to existing rosters around MLS.
Atlanta and Minnesota will have to be a little smarter with their selections than past expansion teams. Homegrown Players on a club’s supplemental roster will also be unavailable for selection.
As reported by Brotherly Gamelast week, the MLS Expansion Draft will go on as planned.
