Mo Farah retained his Olympic 10,000m title after a storming run which saw him get gold despite a mid-race fall.
“Is the race over?”
Speaking after the race, Farah wiped tears from his eyes before saying he wanted to make the country proud. I was down in fourth and I’ve managed to come out and get myself a medal, but I came into the championships to win, I’m not here to finish third and it’s very frustrating.

Still Tanui chased hard all the way to the line, to win silver in 27:05.64, and Farah could never be sure of his win until he crossed the line: with that he pulled his trademark “MoBot” and then fell to the track with a mixture of exhaustion and elation, as well he might. “It’s hard mentally when you go down”, an emotional Farah, who finished in 27 minutes, 5.17 seconds, told reporters.
While claiming the comeback came close to matching the thrill of his double gold four years ago in London, Farah admitted playing football had been his first love while growing up in Hounslow, west London.
As the reigning Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European champion, Rutherford had been favourite ahead of the Games. “We are just following his footsteps”.
At the last two World Championships – where Farah has both times done the double – the Kenyans, Ugandans and Ethiopians have teamed up to throw everything at him.
There was disappointment for Farah’s fellow Beagle, Asha Philip, as she ran 11.33secs in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m to rank 23rd and miss out on the final.
Trott is now the first British female athlete to win three gold medals at the Olympics. #SILVER medal, but it feels like gold!
Henderson needed a huge jump on his sixth, and final, jump of the day – and he delivered. The win fulfilled a deal with coach Al Joyner, the 1984 Olympic triple jump champion.
“That’s why I was so emotional at the end, it nearly went”. He faded back badly, and seemed to give up, struggling physically.
“When I went down it didn’t take a lot out of me and I got up quickly, I thought about how much I’d worked and I wasn’t going to let it affect me”.
Mo Farah has confessed that he thought his Rio 2016 Olympics ‘ “dream was over” after falling over in the 10,000m event.
Farah’s gold is his third in the Olympic Games.
“What is it 26:16?”
He has already achieved the world double-double, having retained his 10,000m and 5,000m titles in Beijing a year ago. I’m on the podium with my training partner.
