Mob attacks Radiohead fans in Turkey’s Istanbul

A group of angry men in Istanbul vandalized a record store and beat up customers for having a listening party and drinking beer to celebrate the release of Radiohead’s new album in the Turkish capital during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. We hope that someday we will be able to look back on such acts of violent intolerance as things of the ancient past. If you’re a diehard Radiohead fan in North Texas, we’d recommend going to whichever brick-and-mortar is closest to you.

The Velvet IndieGround record shop in Istanbul was among hundreds of stores around the world marking the release of Radiohead’s new album, A Moon Shaped Pool.

On reddit, a man claiming to be one of the store’s owners posted a scathing assessment of what happened.

While fans celebrated at the Velvet IndieGround Records in Istanbul, Turkey, a violent attack broke out at around 9pm local time. Although no one was seriously injured in the incident, one person was bloodied after being hit in the head with a bottle, Velvet IndieGround’s Facebook page alerted its followers. “I’ll burn this place with you inside”.

Upset that the event was happening during Ramadan, the store was besieged by a group of men which launched some kind of attack. “They were determined to kill us”. I don’t even know how we made it out. I will share the details later guys. Can’t even think right now, just a blank stare at the walls. “Now it has so much more meaning for me”.
