Mobile 4G LTE CellSpot promises better indoor coverage
T-Mobile’s Un-carrier X is coming next week, but apparently the company couldn’t wait until then to make a few headlines. Keep in mind that the place you’re going to install it in must have T-Mobile’s wireless spectrum, but, in certain areas, it can work without a cellular signal too.

What is a CellSpot?
“Where the T-Mobile Wi-Fi CellSpot’s like a T-Mobile tower, this new 4G LTE CellSpot is a T-Mobile mini-tower”, said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. Basically, they’re mini cell towers that are small enough to not look awkward next to your modem and/or router. T-Mobile is vague about how the LTE CellSpot will work in that regard, but they’re pushing it for businesses as a way to give customers coverage. And the price is right too – eligible Simple Choice customers can get the LTE CellSpot for free (with a refundable $25 deposit), and keep it as long as they are customers of T-Mobile.
Wi-Fi CellSpot Router: Announced at Un-carrier 7.0 in September 2014, this Internet-connected router provides customers with Wi-Fi coverage for calling and texting beyond the reach of any cellular network. But 4G LTE CellSpot is something different, the carrier explains. In case you’re not keeping count, that was the CellSpot Router. T-Mobile already does that with many popular music services. This is an actual tiny cell tower – 8.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall and 1.3 inches thick – that plugs into the wall and into the home’s broadband connection to deliver a 4G LTE signal. The 4G CellSpot – which is compatible with both 3G and 4G – works with any T-Mobile device, and can support up to 16 simultaneous voice calls. The 4G LTE CellSpot delivers the complete T-Mobile LTE network experience, including the Un-carrier’s latest network advancements-like VoLTE, HD voice for crystal clear calls, advanced messaging, video calling and more. In the year since its launch, Legere said T-Mobile has distributed more than 1 million of the devices, allowing customers to make over 11.2 million Wi-Fi calls each day.
