In addition to travelers, the change could be a big help to USA residents who live on the Canadian and Mexican borders and may work or have family on the other side.
“We rate T-MOBILE U.S. INC (TMUS) a BUY”.
AT&T recently bought two Mexican carriers, Nextel and Iusacell. The Company’s advanced nationwide 4G LTE network delivers outstanding wireless experiences to approximately 59 million customers who are unwilling to compromise on quality and value. Legere mentioned that T-Mobile previously allowed customers to roam in those countries, but they were often throttled to lower data speeds, meaning that 50 percent of smartphone owners turned thier devices off when they crossed the border into those coutnries.
Overall, T-Mobile brought its total customers up to 58.9 million for the quarter ended June 30.
An AT&T spokeswoman wasn’t immediately available to comment on T-Mobile’s new plan. In addition, Canada and Mexico accounted for 70% of worldwide business trips undertaken from the USA previous year.
Called Mobile Without Borders, the offer covers calls to fixed and mobile numbers, text messages and data.
If you are traveling in those countries, you’ll be roaming on a local network, with T-Mobile absorbing the roaming costs.
“We’ve tried as hard as we can to get from old school to new school”, says John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile during a media call. However, you were stuck with unlimited EDGE data, which is pretty darn slow, especially if you’re used to LTE here in the States.
T-Mobile’s outspoken CEO John Legere addressed Project Fi, Google’s first experiment with entering the wireless carrier market, during a public question-and-answer session livestreamed on Periscope on Thursday.
Assuming even half those minutes were mobile-to-mobile, the total pay-per-use cost could be as much as $7.5 billion. It doesn’t matter whether you’re calling Mexico City from Toronto or Tallahassee-it’s now all part of your plan. Various amounts of data are included in the global calling plans. In exchange, some of those carriers will get to use T-Mobile’s networks. Regulators appear disinclined to grant that request because, in their view, they’ve already given T-Mobile some of what it asked for.

Data roaming is an expensive, complicated, and confusing problem for all three of the other US carriers.
