A Regina woman has been doing her best to help her home community of Baton Rouge, Louisiana while recovering from the disastrous flooding that hit the state two weeks ago. While the company was able to avoid flood damage, many of our employees did not – in fact, some have lost everything.
Unfortunately, FEMA is no stranger to funding relief efforts in Louisiana, where many of its most expensive relief efforts have occurred.

Dupuy said building inspectors will review homes and businesses that sustained serious damage and decide if they meet the city’s elevation requirements.
Obama met with state officials in Baton Rouge to discuss the federal government’s response to the flooding, which has dumped more than 2-1/2 feet of rain [3 times as much as Hurricane Katrina] on parts of Louisiana. For resident of East Baton Rouge, the dueling standards could creation confusion.
“This is historic, unprecedented, record-level flooding, with well over 100,000 homes damaged and tens of thousands of people that are not in their homes right now”, Edwards said. “When you have that many houses affected, it’s tough on a lot of families”.
In a statement released August 24, the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops called on Catholic parishes across the U.S.to take a second collection on or around September 18.
“This month’s floods in Louisiana are a crisis that demand a national response”, she said. First, there’s the Laundry Brigade, which offers to pick up clothes, bed linens and other items muddied by the rising waters, launder them and “get them back the next day”, Father Gyan said. “And then politically, I think the President made a mistake by letting Donald Trump beat him there once the response phase was over and they were in recovery”.
President Barack Obama toured some of the impacted areas Tuesday, promising continued help.
With all the hard work ahead of them, the people of Louisiana need more than a few words of comfort from the president. Seventy-five percent of homes are damaged in Livingston Parish alone.

Mr Obama dismissed such criticism, saying: “This is not a photo-op issue. This is (about) how do you make sure that a month from now, three months from now, six months from now, people still are getting the help that they need”.
