Mukesh Ambani on September 1 announced the launch of Reliance Jio services for September 5. Company’s aggressive strategy of providing free data, voice calling and claim of offering cheapest 4G services in the world has certainly brought the Telecom sector in a tizzy.
Priyanka Chopra has apparently applied for a Reliance Jio sim card and a photo of the application form to avail the service has gone viral on Whatsapp and social media. Reliance Jio, which had already roped in 1.5 million users in the test phase, is targeting 100 million users at the shortest possible time. Jio aims to fulfill this need of Indians.
Also, Reliance Jio plans are for both pre-paid and postpaid users, while the plans of Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are limited to postpaid users. In postpaid, segments the company will soon revise the offerings in the Rs 2499 and higher tariff plans where as in the prepaid segment it will revise its offerings in the Rs 3999 and higher tariff plans. “The era of paying for voice calls is ending”.
Reliance Jio plans come bundled with free access to Jio apps, including MyJio, JioChat, JioMoney, JioMusic etc. Also, just a friendly reminder that the services are live and active and absolutely free for the next four months!
Plans start at 149 rupees (roughly $2.00) and go up to 4,999 rupees (roughly $75.00), with users having the option to pay 50 rupees (roughly $1.00) for each additional gigabyte of data that they use that is not covered by their plans.
Not that it matters much but Reliance Jio also offers a bundle of premium apps and services.

For the uninitiated, though we doubt if there are any, Reliance Jio is, in a nutshell, the beginning of a new era in the way mobile networks work across the country. Currently, the walk-in customers are not able to get SIM cards immediately.
