“T-Mobile still has some catching up to do if it wants to surpass the two US mega-carriers in coverage”.

A new report from wireless analytics site Open Signal shows that T-Mobile’s LTE network is getting as good as AT&T and Verizon’s. This includes AT&T, Verizon, among other carriers.
OpenSignal pitted T-Mobile against AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, and the results are just in. Sprint earned one for least 4G latency, Verizon won one for best 4G coverage and its 4G downloads speeds, and T-Mobile got one for least 3G latency.
Chicago and Miami had the fastest recorded speeds in OpenSignal’s tests with Verizon offering speeds around 18.8 and 18.9 Mbps respectively.
To celebrate its performance in yesterday’s OpenSignal network report, T-Mobile is kicking off new deals for families. “Nationally both operators are averaging 4G [LTE] connections of 12Mbps, and in a speed comparison in the 11 largest U.S. cities, T-Mobile just barely edged out Verizon”. There’s no number port-in or device trade-in required, and customers are free to combine this offer with other T-Mobile promotions.
Out of the four big carriers, only Sprint sits behind T-Mobile, with 70 percent coverage.
You can see the full report on the four major networks in the USA over at Open Signal at the link below.
Speeds don’t mean much if your customers can’t get on the high speed data network and this is where Verizon took the lead.
For the report, OpenSignal used data from 180,000 people who used its mobile app.
‘All of the four major operators saw improvements to their coverage footprints in the last quarter, ‘ explained the report.
‘Most of its peers in the top 10 tend to be small and densely packed countries like Singapore and South Korea’.
AT&T takes the bronze with nearly 8mbps and Sprint is left in the dust with 6.56Mbps.
The upcoming auction of 600 MHz spectrum is likely to help carriers improve those speeds, OpenSignal said, but that isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.
This increase can be attributed to T-Mobile’s roll out of LTE on the 700MHz spectrum.

AT&T Mobility failed to garner a single category victory, but did show strong results in 3G download speeds (second to T-Mobile US) and the previously mentioned LTE coverage.
