Mobile’s New Family Plan Gives Everyone 10GB Each

T-Mobile compares its plan to something similar offered by Verizon, which sees its base plan requiring families to share 10GB of data each month at a price of $140.

The latest news in T-Mobile’s series of Uncarrier Amped announcements is a revamped family plan that gives each person 10GB of data at what the company claims are “unbeatable” prices.

As with all Simple Choice plans, customers who sign up get access to all the other benefits of being a T-Mobile subscriber. This new plan is a limited time offer so don’t hesitate to get on it if it appeals to you, no other major carrier in the country is offering four lines with 10GB data each for $120 per month right now.

As with all T-Mobile plans, this is just the high-speed data allotment. This is “unlimited” in the sense that you’d get unlimited amounts of 4G LTE data – the new plan still has “unlimited” data, just not with 4G LTE speeds. That said, getting four lines for $120 and having 10GB on each line sounds awesome. A third line with the same access can be added for $20 per month, while a fourth line can be added for free through September 7.

One of the great things about T-Mobile’s service innovations is that its offerings apply to existing customers and are not focused exclusively on new customers.

By comparison, Verizon charges $170 per month for two lines with 20GB of shared data, and AT&T charges $180 per month. You can’t actually use any of that data until you pay additional “line access fees for data you’ve already bought”, said Legere. Verizon charges you $15 per GB if you go over your shared 10GB of data.

However, there remains concern that T-Mobile US’ rampant growth has so far not resulted in a significant financial return as the carrier continues to post net financial losses. For a family of four, that comes to $140-and that’s before the shock overages you’ll end up paying unless you police your family’s data usage to keep it below the 10GB limit.
