Mobile, Sprint roll out revamped unlimited data plans

Other traditional T-Mobile benefits are included, like data roaming in Mexico and Canada, “carrier freedom” programs where T-Mobile helps cover the cost of switching data plans, and the T-Mobile Tuesday customer bonus program. After that, lines 3 through 10 will cost $30 per month.

Sprint is rolling out a slightly better unlimited plan. Those new to T-Mobile will be hooked up with the T-Mobile ONE plan, while those now with the company can choose to stay with their old Simple Choice plans or opt to switch over to T-Mobile ONE if it’s a better option for them. For a family of four, the average cost per line will come out to $40. So, yes, a family of four will pay $40 per line, but a single person will pay $70 and a couple will each pay $60. Carriers have had to reduce prices to lure customers from rivals and have tried to make up the revenue by selling larger data plans.

Legere said that T-Mobile isn’t motivated by what the two biggest mobile carriers Verizon and AT&T – or in his words “dumb and dumber” – are doing, but he hopes they follow suit.

Here’s the deal with the T-Mobile ONE plan. With T-Mobile’s Simple Choice Plans, you got an allotment of high speed tethering before you got throttled to 2G speeds, which are virtually worthless on a PC or Mac. T-Mobile will give you 5GB of high-speed tethering, but you will need to spend $15 for it.

“This is not just a rate plan for us”, CEO John Legere said on a conference call Thursday morning.

ONE Is the Loneliest Number – T-Mobile ONE launches on 6 September 2016.

So the $70 per month unlimited plan could actually end up costing as much as $115 per month.

Both of these strategies are meant to provide a pseudo-unlimited data plan, but Sprint and T-Mobile’s latest flat-fee update may be more appealing for customers who want simplicity and don’t care as much about video streaming quality.

AT&T unveiled new Mobile Share Advantage plans that eliminate data overage charges for its mobile customers customers.

The plan 4G LTE, with video streaming up to 480p resolution, gaming up to 2mbps and music streaming up to 500kpbs. Customers may retain existing plans, but T-Mobile One will be the only plan offered to consumers. During that same period, AT&T Inc. has added 6 million and Verizon Communications Inc. added 13.5 million. Those who want to use their phone as a hotspot can do so, but only at slow 2G speeds.
