City police chief Azhar Akram said the younger brother fled after the crime to Dera Ghazi Khan with two of his friends.
The Express Tribune reports that Baloch’s brothers were upset over her modeling career, adding that Azeem was allegedly threatening her over her social media presence.
Her murder sparked an outrage on social media with people, including Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, writing in support of the deceased from across the world. “He escaped after strangling Qandeel”.
Despite that, she continued to be outspoken in her beliefs, saying in one recent Facebook post that “At least global media can see what i am up to”.
The 26-year-old actor-cum-model was killed in central district of Multan last night, police said today. Qandeel Baloch feared for her security as she said, “I know I will not be provided security and I am not feeling secured here so have made a decision to move overseas with my parents after Eid-al-Fitr”.
“Apparently, it is an honour killing but further investigations will reveal the real motives behind this murder”, Ghazanfar said. Recently, Baloch had been receiving death threats because of a scandal with Mufti Adbul Qavi, a member of the clergy. Her brother Waseem Azeem confessed to ending her life by strangulation as an “honor” killing.
The brother of a famous Pakistani social media sensation has said he committed to murder of his brother as his sister’s “videos and scandals had become unbearable”.
