No injuries or serious property damage were reported and Earthquakes Canada said none would be expected from a shaker of that size.

The Southern California tremblor occurred at 5:48 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 3.1 miles.

“I woke up and I noticed I was rattling or shaking a little…”

“Even one like last night that was felt by so many people is really a tiny, tiny natural disaster compared to the really big ones that have happened in this region in the past”, he said.

The commission is preparing similar actions in response to the December 29 quakes near Edmond, but has not finalized a plan, said spokesman Matt Skinner.

The quake came near the intersection of the San Jacinto, San Andreas and Cucamonga faults, three of the largest in Southern California, but it was too small to determine which fault was responsible, the USGS said.

TransLink temporarily shut down the Millenium and Expo lines of the SkyTrain as a precaution after Tuesday night’s quake, but spokeswoman Anne Drennan said they, along with bus bridges, were reopened for one last run.

“I was here all day and I felt the aftershocks”, said owner Stephanie Sanders. Some of them were not perceptible to humans, but several were; jolts with preliminary magnitudes of 3.8 and 3.2 followed just five and seven minutes, respectively, after the mainshock.

The City of Vancouver confirmed no known reports of damage and BC Hydro reported the quake had no impact on its electrical transmission and distribution systems.

The epicenter of the quake, measured by the USGS at a magnitude of 4.4, was recorded near Devore in the San Bernardino area.
