Modern Family books Nathan Fillion, Martin Short for season 8

The Castle alum has booked a multiple-episode role on the network’s Modern Family, co-creator Steve Levitan told reporters Thursday at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour.

“Modern Family” season 8 premieres on September 21, Wednesday, at 9 p.m. on ABC.

Nathan Fillion, who impressed fans with his acting in the famous ABC eight-season drama series, Castle, is reportedly making a comeback to the network albeit in a different genre – comedy. Fillion, whose known for playing detective on “Castle“, will appear in multi-episodes of the ABC comedy as a weatherman.

Fillion now stars on veteran procedural, “Castle“. Martin Short will also guest-star next season, Levitan said. He is slotted to play Merv Schechter, a promotional maven. He was recently among the ensemble cast of web series Con Man and co-starred in Joss Whedon’s Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and had previously appeared in Community, Drunk History and Two Guys, A Girl And A Pizza Place. Short will also be seen on NBC’s Hairspray Live.

He might be done with “Castle“, but Nathan Fillion has other plans for the new TV season.

“Modern Family” Season 8 will continue this fall with the family members reuniting at home for Father’s Day, ABC has revealed.

“Modern Family” Season 8 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9PM on ABC. Still, we offered Jay and Gloria to Ed O’Neill and Sofía Vergara, and they didn’t didn’t meet till the first table reading of the show.
