Their last meeting took place on July 8 in the Russian city of Ufa on the margins of the BRICS and SCO summits. “Our relation with Russian Federation is unique, covering nearly every field of human endeavour”, Modi said. Both New Delhi and Moscow acknowledged that the trade was far below potential. “I am very optimistic about the outcome of this visit”, Modi said in the statement.
But an RTI filed seeking to know the answer has found a curious reply: The Government of India has said all personal social media accounts of Modi are managed by him personally and there is no staff or PR agent behind those interesting tweets and selfies. He further said: “My visit will deepen the cooperation between India and Russian Federation in the economic, energy and security spheres”. We additionally need to improve cooperation in science and know-how, mining amongst different sectors.
Russian Federation and India have shared close ties since the Cold War.
After the prime minister stepped onto the tarmac, a Russian official made a gesture with his hand which was reportedly misinterpreted by PM Modi as he started walking. The deal will give Rosneft access to India’s second largest oil refinery in Vadinar, Gujarat. India and Russia are targeting a bilateral trade volume of $30 billion by 2025, and a mutual direct investment target of $15 billion by 2025-the latter commitment came out of the recent India-Russia Inter-Governmental Consultations in October.
The visit will also include a visit at the Emergency Situations Ministry and a speech at a “Friends of India” event. At the event, Modi will be greeted by cultural programmes, “Abhinandan” and “Abhivyakti”. However, as required by the protocol, Modi didn’t stand in attention until the completion of the national anthem and he kept walking. It is a reflection of the feeling of brotherhood and amity that exists between the people of India and Russian Federation, the release said.
Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will begin by visiting a disaster management centre in Moscow, before laying a wreath at a memorial to the Unknown Soldier – Russia’s tribute to its World War II briefings.
A free trade agreement is also expected to be signed between the two sides.
