Modi accuses opposition of doing politics of polarisation

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday described the beef lynching incident in Dadri as “unfortunate and undesirable”. He had also urged the people to pay heed to President Pranab Mukherjee’s call for maintaining Indian civilisation’s core values of tolerance and mutual respect.

The Shiv Sena had vehemently protested against a concert by legendary Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali and the launch of a book by former Pakistan minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri. This debate can be resolved through dialogue and discussion.

Modi had been criticised by rival parties for not speaking up on the incident even as his partymen made incendiary remarks and numerous men arrested for the lynching were linked to a local BJP leader.

The Shiv Sena Thursday continued to take potshots at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the BJP over their stand on Pakistanis being allowed to conduct events in Mumbai.

Questioning the credibility of the statement, Khan said, “The RSS and the BJP consider Narendra Modi as the “Godhra hero” and they are committed to Modi only due to Godhra”.

But ally Shiv Sena, which opposed Ghulam Ali’s concert, raked up Modi’s past by referring to the 2002 Gujarat riots when he was the Chief Minister.

He also emphasised that the BJP is against such display of fake secularism.

Modi claimed those parties were resorting to such propaganda which did not want the development of minorities and look at them as vote bank.

In the interview, Modi also said that his government had nothing to do with either of the incidents.

First, it showed Narendra Modi’s pictures under “Top 10 Criminals of the world” alongside notorious gangsters, murderers, dictators and Justin Bieber in the search results.

“The prime minister is responsible for the lives of his countrymen; it seems he is running away from his responsibilities”. “The lynching was directly related to the BJP and Sangh Parivar”.

“I believe it is not appropriate to wash your hands of by saying the new government has no role to play”, Congress leader Sachin Pilot said.
