On Saturday, Mr. Jaitley said that he had offered to the Congress that the GST Council could resolve disputes and form a dispute redressal forum, as was proposed by Mr Chidambaram.
The government has walked the extra mile to explain the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill to the Congress but the agenda of the principal opposition party, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, is to “paralyse” the country.
“Your finance minister in his blogs and on Facebook says this is an offence under the Income Tax Act”.
Does he have the right to make statements like that? The Congress party is making a hue and cry and stopping the Parliament from functioning over the verdict of Delhi High Court.
Congress insiders are sceptical about the prospect of any major legislations being passed, including GST, when party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi are to appear on December 19 before the trial court in the Herald case. He is giving a sort of indication to the IT department that they need to send notice.
He termed comments of BJP chief ministers of Maharashtra and Haryana that they would favour cancellation of National Herald properties leased to its holding companies as “political vendetta”. Young Indian is a Section 25 company that means no money can be shared with any of the shareholders.

The Congress MPs have in the last few days disrupted the Parliament with continuous protest over the National Herald case and alleged “vendetta politics” leading to repeated adjournments of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. On Congress demands for inclusion of a GST rate of 18% in constitution amendment bill, Jaitley said tax rates are not mentioned in constitution anywhere in the world. “If he thinks country’s judiciary functions at someone’s instructions, then there can’t be a bigger insult of country’s court”, Irani said at a media event. “One of the very senior BJP leaders had set a democratic principle that obstruction was part of parliamentary strategy”, said Sibal. We all know what the situation used to be like 15 years back, Gandhi said. Sibal said: “He (Modi) does Mann ki Baat everyday, we want he should do “dhang ki baat” (meaningful talks) also”.
