Referring to the problem of drugs in Punjab, Rahul said senior Akali leaders had made fun of him when he made a statement that 70 per cent population of the state was getting addicted to drugs.
The Congress vice president exuded confidence that the party will form the next government in Punjab after the assembly polls which are due in early 2017. “You (Mr Badal) or the Congress, if you still have any doubts”, he said. Amarinder, on his part, said Rahul had come to throw out the Badals out of Punjab.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday termed Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s Punjab visit as nothing more than a “photo opportunity” to bolster his sagging image.
He also paid obeisance at a Sikh shrine in Talwandi Sabo in Punjab, where he was given the traditional “Siropa”. The Gurudwara, one of the five seats of temporal authority of Sikhism, is the place where Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, prepared the full version of the Sikh scriptures called Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 1705.

FARIDKOT, Punjab-Following the visit of Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal to the families of Kotkapura martyrs, Rahul Gandhi too visited the families. The village falls in Bathinda Parliamentary constituency twice represented by Harsimrat in Parliament. Notably, ever since the start of the Congress vice president’s visit here yesterday, the only complaint that he heard from the people was the factionalism in the state unit.
