Modi has cemented ties with allies, says Pakistani daily
Noting that Modi “showed a knack for wielding what can be a potent diplomatic weapon-the element of surprise”, Time magazine called his Friday visit to Pakistan as “The biggest surprise of all”.

In an earlier announcement Aziz said that the meeting between the foreign secretaries of the two countries has been scheduled for the mid of next month. The Pakistan English-language media had only good things to say about Modi’s trip to Pakistan which coincided with Nawaz Sharif’s birthday.
He said Jammu and Kashmir which has borne the brunt ofterrorism would be the biggest beneficiary of the peace parleys between India and Pakistan. The Home Minister maintained that the “visit was in line with the vision of Vajapyee on India-Pakistan relations”. Talking about Vajpayee, Singh said that the former prime minister’s contribution, too, has been of importance in independent India’s resurgence. The article criticised the Indian opposition Congress’ reaction to the PM’s sudden visit and said, “More than the Pakistani naysayers who are just consumed by the presence of the steel magnate Jindal at the occasion and the ego hurt by obliging with Modi’s sudden plan of sojourn in the land of pure, the vociferous reservations – so to say – of the Indian opposition party Congress have absolutely disappointed the aspirants of peaceful relations”. Therefore, even unscheduled visit of Modi to Pakistan was welcomed by China and U.S. But unfortunately global community failed to exert pressure on India to resolve main burning issues like Kashmir, Siachen, Water, Sir Creek and noninterference in Balochistan. “In view of the recent tumultuous events, at the heart of which stands Modi, it had become pertinent to ease tensions between the two neighbouring countries”, it said.
Referring to the direct benefit scheme for LPG subsidy, Modi said 15 crore people are benefitting from it and that the scheme “Pehal” has made it to the Guiness Book of World Records. He also clarified that this does not mean going to war with India’s neighbours.
“I believe about 35-40 schemes are being integrated with the direct benefit transfer scheme”, he said.

“The economic bloc that is forming in the region can only be beneficial to all parties involved if there is peace in the region – something that does not seem to be what Russian Federation wants, from Turkey to Pakistan, and something the USA might want, but has not had the guts to really set in motion”.
