Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the biggest tech companies in Silicon Valley, including Google, Facebook and Microsoft.

Digital India is an enterprise for India’s transformation on a scale that is, perhaps, unmatched in human history”, PM Modi had said while speaking about Digital India initiative before a gathering of Silicon Valley CEOs.

Much of Mr Modi’s USA visit, on which he received rock-star welcomes, also focused on connecting with the Indian diaspora in Silicon Valley, the IT professionals who migrated in their droves over the past two decades to seize job opportunities that weren’t available back home.

During Sunday’s event, Zuckerberg asked Modi to speak about his mother, causing the Indian leader to become emotional.

“My gratitude to the American people for the very warm welcome and the hospitality wherever my delegation & I went”, he said.

Modi mentioned his goal to build 175 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2022 but to transition to a “development strategy to enable us to transition to a more sustainable energy mix”.

During the fifth meeting between the two leaders in over a year, Obama also reiterated support for India’s permanent membership of the UN Security Council while Modi pressed for reform of the world body within a fixed time frame. He also met with Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) CEO Marillyn Hewson and IBM (NYSE:IBM) Chairman and CEO Virginia Rometty last week in the US, along with other top corporate chiefs. This is the new face of diplomacy.

“Modi’s message is clear: help us digitise India, and help us make India more business-friendly”, Mantri said.

“We all know that the dynamic Asia-Pacific region will shape the course of this century”.

“We must ensure that technology is accessible, affordable and adds value”, he said, adding that his government is giving highest priority to cyber security and intellectual property. Our defense cooperation, including defense training, is expanding.
