Modi pays tributes to Jaya
Chennai: At least one million people gathered at Chennai’s Marina Beach to catch a final glimpse of their beloved leader J. Jayalalithaa, who was laid to rest on Tuesday evening.

The Mentor of Jayalalithaa was also buried on the Marina beach, as Amma lived following the footsteps of MGR and the fans and followers believe they can still hear the sound of MGR’s watch ticking and chose to Burry Amma in the Marina Beach.
In the past, when Jayalalithaa faced political problems such as a jail term for corruption, her loyalists threatened to immolate themselves or lie down in streets for buses to run them over.
Earlier, politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visited Chennai to pay their last homage to the leader.
Jayalalithaa’s friend Sasikala Natarajan remained near the politician’s body today. Schools were shut and thousands of police deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. Women broke into wails, clutching their chests in mourning. There were loud cries of “Amma, Amma”. Jayalalithaa was a towering presence in Indian politics and was elected five times to lead the state government of Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, the Hon’ble Lt Governor has appealed the people of the Islands to maintain peace and harmony in the Islands in this hour of grief. Affectionately called as “Amma”, she was an embodiment of womens empowerment and filled with indefatigable spirit. Experts and doctors tried to save her on life support systems, but she couldn’t make it.
“She was the leader of the masses and had made vast contribution to the development and welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu”.
Besides Fadnavis, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray and other state leaders paid rich tributes to AIADMK chief. She accepted a salary of Re1. She was an able administrator and knew what is what.
