Modi, Putin, Jayalalithaa dedicate KKNP-1 to the nation
Speaking at inauguration of Unit 1 of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, PM Modi said, “In dedicating KNPP, we mark another historic tie between India and Russian Federation”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday participated via videoconference in the commissioning of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant’s first power unit built with Russian participation.
Speaking at the inauguration from Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa asserted that the Nuclear Plant is a monument of the long standing relationship between India and Russian Federation, adding this project is important to Tamil Nadu, which is trying to rise above in all sectors.
In our journey of cooperation, we plan to build a series of bigger nuclear power units. Today’s event is also a joyful occasion for the team of engineers in India and Russian Federation, we salute them for their relentless work. “This also signals our joint commitment to build pathways of partnership for green growth”, he said. Russian Federation is glad to share its experience in this area with its foreign colleagues, the president added. He said that Putin and himself were feeling honoured to be dedicating the Unit 1 of the Kudankulam power plant to the people of India.
The capacity of KKNPP Unit-II on full power operation would be 1,000 Mw.
Meanwhile, the components for the third and fourth units have started arriving at Kudankulam, sources said.

The second unit of the nuclear power plant attained criticality on July 10, 2016 and is expected to be connected to the grid later this month.
