Prime Minister Modi touched upon various subjects during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort. “We are also happy to note that the Ministry of Agriculture will now have an added focus on farmer welfare, which is integral for the overall growth and prosperity of our country”, mentioned Dr. Suri.

In his speech, Modi repeatedly used the word “Team India” – to denote a united nation.

Modi also gave a call for more Start-Ups in India, and encouraged banks to give loans, especially to tribals and Dalits, who could be “entrepreneurs for the future”.

“When we took up the work and team India realised its responsibilities, it was discovered that there were 2.62 lakh schools where over 4.25 lakh toilets are needed”.

After sweeping to power 15 months ago in a landslide election victory, Modi’s right-wing government promised a string of business-friendly reforms to attract foreign investment and revive the economy. “It is a total disappointment for the ex-servicemen community”, he said reacting to the Prime Minister’s comments on OROP.

He said that his Government was focusing on raising farm productivity, and providing electricity and irrigation to farmers. “Despite that, we have been able to control prices from double-digits”. He urged the people of India to ‘Start-up” and “Stand-up’. “Bank accounts are essential for integrating the poor into the financial system”.

He said through the new law, while efforts are being made to bring back black money already stashed overseas, it has at least ensured that nobody dares to take tainted money out of the country.

“Last 15th August, I had announced Jan Dhan Yojana from this spot”, Modi said, “Today, 17 crore people have opened JanDhan accounts. His hands are so soft”, said an excited Jyoti who is in the eighth standard. “Be it MyGov, letters from citizens, Mann Ki Baat, communication with people…daily Jan Bhagidari is increasing”. He said the modalities were being worked out with stakeholders, and he was hopeful of a positive outcome.

Other initiatives, some of them launched by the Congress-led government that the Modi wave swept out of power, were also highlighted to show one thing: How Team India or the 125-crore-strong population has managed to do the impossible.
