Jaishankar said Modi will also become the first ever Indian PM to address the British Parliament.

The huge red projection featured a picture of Modi holding a sword in front of the Nazi symbol on the walls of Parliament.

Britain was among the first Western countries to end its boycott of Modi, who has denied any wrongdoing over the violence that killed more than 1,000 people, mostly Muslims.

Deputy Speaker Lindsay Hoyle replied: ‘On Remembrance Sunday there is no time when it is acceptable to project anything on to the House of Commons without permission, but to project a swastika on the visit of a state leader is totally unacceptable.

The highlight as well as the differentiator with that of Xi’s visit, Jaishankar hinted, will be Modi’s address to the Indian diaspora at Wembley Stadium on November 13.

Performing detailed postmortem of the three words “Democracy, Humanity and Kashmiriyat” used by Modi in the rally, the Hurriyat chairman said that by saying the word “democracy” they (India) mean to say that the military operations conducted in Jammu & Kashmir in the name of elections is a democratic process and a substitute to the right to self determination of the Kashmiri people.

Meanwhile, on the eve of his visit, the government on Tuesday eased foreign investment norms across 15 sectors, including defence and civil aviation, to attract overseas funds and boost economic growth.

The Foreign Secretary said Modi will also visit the Jaguar Land Rover factory at Solihull, a fully owned company of Tata Motors, to “drive home the point that we (India) are job makers, not job takers”. “United Kingdom remains a preferred choice for Indian students”, he said.

“London has a very strong link with India’s freedom struggle”.

Britain has invested $22 billion in India since 2000 and bilateral trade stood at $18 billion in 2014-15.

In terms of outcomes, Jaishankar said the visit is expected to see an agreement on security cooperation and another on cooperation in development aid partnership. India will push for a few global economic reforms and reducing transaction cost of sending remittances back home from the present 7.5 per cent to 3 per cent. With about $70 billion in remittances in 2013, India is the largest recipient of officially recorded remittances in the world.

“Our focus is on how can we work together on challenges facing our countries from economic prosperity to security”, she told AFP. “That is going to be part of discussion and pitch for India”, Panagariya said.

He said another area of importance for bilateral cooperation was defence.
