Chaudhry said that during the brief meeting, the two PMs decided that as part of a comprehensive dialogue, the foreign secretaries of the two countries will meet in mid-January.
The first that outsiders – including his own Indian constituency – heard of the visit was when Modi made a show of casually mentioning it on his Twitter account: “Looking forward to meeting PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today afternoon, where I will drop by on my way back to Delhi”.
Earlier Nawaz Sharif and Narendra Modi agreed on a meeting of national security advisers of both countries in Ufa and a meeting was scheduled on August 22 afterwards.
On his way back to India from Russian Federation via Pakistan, Prime Minister Modi arrived in the Afghan capital to inaugurate the new Parliament House.
Major political parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, had the consensus on peace and enhanced people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and India, Sartaj Aziz said while talking to a private television channel.
The sudden warming of relations between India and Pakistan seems to have taken many by surprise. Like leaders of other nations in the world like the EU, ASEAN and even countries in our neighborhood leaders of India and Pakistan too needed to inject informality in their relations. India and Pakistan came into existence in 1947 when they were created out of Britain’s former colony.
Tenth Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924 in Gwalior, while Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, was born on December 25, 1876. Defence expert Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Shahid Latif said the meeting between the two leaders was a positive move and it would pave the way for resolving core issues between the two nuclear powers.
Soon after his arrival, Modi flew to Sharif’s farmhouse in the suburbs of Lahore in a helicopter.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Modi met Nawaz Sharif and discussed “bilateral ties”. However, he says, the Indian side is concerned about the motives of Pakistan in dealing with terror groups, who have carried out terrorist attacks in India.
“Meeting of the two prime ministers, from secret Kathmandu one to Lahore one, must be through institutional frameworks with (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) MFA in the loop for sustainability”, he said.

Mr. Modi said in Kabul that Afghanistan will benefit when terrorism is contained and doesn’t dictate the choices its citizens make.
