Doctors have advised Sharif to take a week-long rest after his open heart surgery is completed successfully.

Even Sharif’s staunch opponent and political rival, PTI chief Imran Khan wished him health and a speedy recovery.

Sharif will undergo an open-heart surgery on Tuesday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had said on Friday.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the prime minister said the ailing premier, who has been in London for the past three days, had been admitted to the hospital for the proposed surgery.

Pakistan’s prime minister will return home once doctors have deemed it safe for him to travel again.

Last week, Maryam Nawaz said her father had a cardiac procedure – “Atrial Fibrillation Ablation” – in 2011, during which certain complications occurred resulting in heart perforation. People belonging to different faiths and various walks of life, in and outside the country, prayed for the success of the operation and for the PM s quick recovery, reported Dunya News.

Experts say the Constitution does not offer any guidance on who exactly is authorised to manage state affairs in case the prime minister needs prolonged treatment.

Mr Sharif’s surgery will be conducted at London’s The Princess Grace Hospital, which is considered one of the best-equipped multi-disciplinary hospital in the United Kingdom capital.

Sharif, 66, was prime minister for two terms in the 1990s before being overthrown in a 1999 military coup. The Prime Minister is off the pump now.
