Modi witnesses demo of first prototype of retrofitted electric bus

India’s symbolic gift of democracy to Afghanistan – its new parliament building – is nearly complete with plans in the works for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Kabul in the near future for the official inauguration, reported Afghan news agency TOLONews.

The proto-type bus has been developed by KPIT, Pune with consultation with the Central Institute of Road Transport and the technology has been completely developed in the country.

Gadkari said a policy to promote environment-friendly ethanol, bio-diesel, gas and CNG will be announced in this Parliament session as most older diesel buses are running on BS-II and BS-III engines, which are seen as highly polluting. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras are already in the process of developing such Li-ion batteries.

The government is also making regulations for allowing Flex Fuel vehicles that give a choice to users to choose fuel. “We can bring this kind of bus for public transport through our “StartupIndia” and “StandupIndia” campaign”, PM Modi said while flagging off a lithium-ion-powered battery bus here.
