– 246 large trucks and buses (235 large trucks, 11 buses) were involved in fatal crashes in work zones (a 27 percent increase from 2013). “We ask that motorists acknowledge these advanced warnings, stay alert and obey any work zone signs when approaching and traveling through a work area to help bring MS toward zero deaths on highways”.

Here’s something to consider as you start your morning commute today – Monday marks the beginning of National Work Zone Awareness Week.

This is a part of the initiative for Work Zone Safety Awareness in Austin.

This year, IDOT and the Illinois Tollway will be continuing their use of Smart Work Zones.

To achieve that, in conjunction with National Work Zone Awareness Week, ADOT is launching a work zone safety campaign, “The Vest Knows Best”, to protect motorists and those who build and maintain Arizona’s highways.

The two leading causes of crashes in work zones are attributable to speeding and driver inattention, state transportation officials said. The public is invited to attend this event that honors employees who lost their lives in work zone crashes. “As spring advances and warm weather allows highway roadwork to resume after the winter, we must remember that the lives of highway workers are often in our hands”.

According to PennDOT, 23 people were killed in work zone crashes previous year, with a total of almost 2,000 crashes during 2015. “When you’re in a work zone anywhere it’s important to do the same practices, focus, don’t be distracted in your driving, and also make sure you slow down”. “They want their loved ones home safe each night”. Use the hashtags: #NWZAW, #GoOrangeVA and #OrangeforSafety. Follow these tips when traveling through a work zone to keep everyone safe. “Please slow down. Speed is one of the most common factors in all work zone accidents”, Bryant said. While work zone fatalities are about half of what they were 15 years ago, there is still more work to be done.
