Mojang to Launch Minecraft for Oculus Rift Next Week

Minecraft in virtual reality: It’s a dream for fans of the immersive crafting and world building sim, and it’s going to be a reality for Oculus Rift owners starting next week. This, however, didn’t happen as planned and VR enthusiasts were getting impatient. Mojang employee Tommaso Checchimade made the announcement earlier today in a tweet.

We said that Rift support would be in 0.15.6, but it will be out next week instead!

For owners of other VR headsets, such as Vive, we are sure the game will come to your platform eventually- after all, it is now already available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U, PCs runnings Windows and Mac OS, and smartphones and tablets running iOS, Android, FireOS, and Windows. “Minecraft” is one of the most played games. He also admits that the game was actually supposed to hit Oculus Rift back in June, but missed that date by a couple of months. But our guess is that the game will eventually make it to Microsoft’s very own Hololens where it might reach a whole new level entirely. There is no word of an HTC Vive VR version for Minecraft but Oculus Rift games can already be played through a third-party app for HTC’s headset. Just head over to their website and enter your credentials to get access. We still don’t know exactly when the game will arrive, but it’s just a matter of days at this point. Minecraft on the Oculus Rift will be a good win for the company, which is now struggling against the HTC Vive and its dominant sales and room scale VR greatness. And finally, you should own a PC or Mac copy of the game itself.
