For investors, the index is an important gauge of the development of the most sustainably managed companies in the world.

Companies chosen for the indices must meet worldwide criteria for social responsibility in areas such as environmental protection, human rights, corporate governance, and relationships with stakeholders, and are expected to demonstrate sustainable business practices.

For the seventh straight year, Teck Resources Limited (TSX: TCK.A and TCK.B, NYSE: TCK) (“Teck”) has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI), indicating that Teck’s sustainability practices are in the top 10 percent of the 2,500 largest companies in the S&P Global Broad Market Index.

Gildan Activewear, meanwhile, was included in the list for the fourth consecutive year, and remains the only North American company in the Index’s textiles, apparel and luxury goods industry group.

Nestlé has been named the world’s most sustainable food business in a survey by Dow Jones. The companies are evaluated on the basis of a comprehensive assessment of economic, environmental, and social contributions. It is one of only 24 companies to be awarded industry group leader status.

The DJSI, introduced in 1999, is produced by Dow Jones in collaboration with RobecoSAM, a Swiss investment company founded on the belief that integrating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors into traditional financial analysis can generate long-term value.

More information on Newmont’s safety, economic, environmental and social performance can be found in the company’s annual sustainability report, Beyond the Mine.

The DJSI is the longest-running global sustainability benchmark, a key reference point in sustainability investing for investors and an effective engagement platform for companies which want to adopt sustainable best practices.
