Authorities say that Thomas confessed to murdering her 5-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son at their southeast Houston home last Friday.

“How am I gonna tell my brother about his kids?” “Why would anyone do this?”

“I’m just a phone call away”, she said. I mean, why would someone do their kids like that?

Police said Monday that 30-year-old Sheborah Latrice Thomas told investigators she drowned the boy and girl in a bathtub Friday, wrapped them in sheets and put their bodies in a trash can near her house.

The mom was arrested, and eventually charged with capital murder, after authorities discovered the bodies just before 11:00 a.m. local time in Houston on Sunday.

Thomas also had a 12-year-old son, but he was not injured. Investigators are still trying to determine what possible motive the mother had for drowning her two children.

Eventually, the man convinced Thomas to get in his vehicle and he drove the woman to the Houston Police Department’s South Central patrol station.

Armando Selgo, owner of the house Thomas allegedly rolled the bodies of her children under, expressed his sadness and disbelief at what Thomas purportedly did.

The deaths of Thomas’ two children are being investigated by Child Protective Services (CPS).

A woman who told KHOU that she was the young victims’ aunt said their father is now in jail.

Thomas is being held without bond. He continued to help her pack, load up the truck. He claims she replied, “I told you that I killed them”.

“While you were there, how did you feel drowning your kids?” she said to KHOU. She pleaded guilty to failing to identify herself to a peace officer in 2011, pleaded guilty to two charges of misdemeanor theft in 2010 and was placed on probation for misdemeanor theft in 2009. He spoke in Spanish saying they could not believe what she had done and that this had happened. The acquaintance initially thought Thomas was joking until he went over to her home and found her packing up to leave. The unidentified man reportedly told the police he asked her where her children were, and she told him she had killed them.

Authorities were not immediately aware of Thomas having any history of mental health problems, Smith said. Her daughter had been found with a homeless man who was intoxicated, wandering the streets together. As they packed her belongings, he asked about her children, wanting to know where they were. In a statement, CPS says, “It is important to learn everything we can about this tragedy, and what we can learn about what may have led to it, so our Office of Child Safety will conduct an independent and comprehensive review of how CPS handled any prior allegations involving the Thomas family”.
