The first deputy to arrive found the suspect, identified as Austin Kelly Harrouff, on top of the male victim in the driveway biting off parts of the man’s face, according to the television station.

Snyder called the teen “abnormally strong”.

Snyder has said Harrouff tested negative for cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and other common drugs, but that further tests would be conducted to see if he had ingested steroids or a hallucinogenic drug like flakka or bath salts.

“There has to be something that he ingested but we don’t have confirmation it was Flakka”, Kukuvna said.

Flakka is a synthetic drug that has been gaining popularity recently, it is known to cause delirium, paranoia and what has been called superhuman strength. The mother said Harrouff had been saying he had “super powers” and “was here to protect people”, according to a Jupiter police report.

She told police she didn’t think he was a danger to himself or anyone else.

Harrouff is a sophomore at Florida State University in Tallahassee. His father lives one street away from where the attack occurred.

A neighbour who witnessed the terrifying attack tried to intervene and was also stabbed numerous times. The good Samaritan was injured so badly that he was airlifted to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, WPEC reports. “Thank God Jeff had enough sense to get back in the house”. Snyder said the teenager was “grunting and growling”, and “making animal noises” when they eventually subdued him.

The seemingly random and unprovoked attack has captured the attention of the nation, said Snyder on Wednesday.

According to the initial autopsy report completed Wednesday, both John Stevens and Michelle Mishcon Stevens suffered severe blunt trauma as well as stab wounds and lacerations that were not survivable. “But I am not going to watch them”, she said.

“He was not feeling pain, not responding to a dog biting, not responding to a Taser, three or four people pulling him off”, Mr Snyder said.

The horrific scene has shocked and appalled even the most toughened detectives, and the weird, demonic behavior by Harrouff is being linked to the synthetic drug Flacca, according to sources.

Kukuvka said accused attacker Austin Harrouff remains in stable condition but has been unable to speak because of a breathing tube.

“It seems like a neighborhood that was stunned, nearly into silence”, Snyder said. The headline of the story, by the way, is “Florida Man Caught Eating Stranger’s Face Was Standout Student, FSU Frat Brother”. His investigators are trying to piece together how Harrouff may have gotten the drug and what he was doing Monday evening in the minutes before he encountered the middle-aged couple relaxing in their garage.
