The Fort Myers Police Department reported that two individuals were fatally shot, “at least 14-16” more sustained minor to life-threatening wounds during the episode, which occurred at approximately 12:30 am (0430 GMT) in the club’s parking lot.

Sean, a student at Royal Palm Exceptional School, was shot in the parking lot, and a girl with him was shot in a leg, said his brothers, John and Verly Francois.

Four victims remain at the hospital.

“The rapper was upset, someone not being able to perform”, she said. At least 19 people, ranging in age from 12- to 27-years-old, were wounded and treated at local hospitals. No other details were available.

In a news release later Monday, officials said they investigated two suspicious vehicles near the club in the aftermath of the shooting; one vehicle fled and led officers on a chase, eventually stopping. “He’s always joking”, Jean Archilles said.

The club is in a strip mall that includes a daycare center and is across the street from a large apartment complex.

Police said some victims were released from the hospital before providing statements to detectives.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott fended off potential calls for gun control in the wake of the shooting at a news conference held Monday.

Her son was one of two teenagers killed early Monday at Club Blu, the latest in a string of mass shootings this summer.

In a posting on Facebook, the club said that parents were picking up their children when the shooting occurred.

“Her dodging bullets and running, dropping in between cars, it’s ridiculous that these kids have to go through this”, Ms. Gary said. “They can’t enjoy themselves because you have other people that have criminalistic minds, and they just want to terrorize things”. They were charged in connection with that pursuit, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday.

Club La Vela host teen nights every Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday, but La Vela employees tell me security is their top priority, and the tragedy in Fort Myers is a reminder to never let their guard down.

“We did everything we could to make sure these kids were safe”, Club Blu co-owner Cheryl Filardi told the News-Press. Mr Archilles said his son loved to play football and basketball. The talented athlete often spent the night at her house.

“I’m just happy my family is spared, but at the same time my heart cries for the that family is a part of it”, the 43-year-old said. “I’m really hurt. It hurts so bad”, she said, adding she had to then break the news to her son.

The party was for teens, but online state records show Club Blu’s alcohol license was revoked in early June. The same records show that a complaint was filed in 2014 for “criminal activity” and that the club was given an official notice.
