Moment of silence Thursday acknowledges domestic violence victims

Did you know that the City of Lakewood Legal Department, on behalf of the residents of Lakewood, University Place Steilacoom and DuPont, filed 543 domestic violence cases between January and August?

At the George Streetfest on Main Street on Friday, October 2, Annie’s Vintage Garden storefront sidewalk will play host to the DOVE Center.
DOVE Center will premiere a brand new video titled “Breaking the Silence – Making the Difference in our Community”. More details will be released at a future date.
Elkhart County Safe Haven Shelter which is now wrapped in a purple ribbon since purple is the domestic violence awareness color. A few details are still pending; please visit the coalition’s Facebook page for the latest updates.
The community is invited to a ceremony Thursday at 11 a.m.to proclaim October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Attendees will hear from survivors, activists, volunteers, legislators and dignitaries as they stand up to speak out about domestic violence. “There are people and services that can help to get them away from these situations”.

This year’s theme is “Bystander Intervention”, with DVIP programs set to educate the public on how to shelter support, and advocate for potential or known victims of domestic abuse.
